

More than 10,000 students in about sixty-five (65) Senior High Schools in Greater Accra, Central and Eastern Regions have benefited from cybercrime awareness programme under the auspices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The Public Affairs Unit (PAU) of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has for the past three (3) years being undertaking crime prevention education in second cycle schools across the Greater Accra, Central and Eastern Regions.

Speaking to EOCO News Desk, the Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Jacqueline Avotri (Esq.) said that the cybercrime awareness programme dubbed “Sensitisation Programme on Prohibited Cyber Activities for Senior High Schools” started in 2017 and has benefitted fifty-two (52) schools in the Greater Accra Region, six (6) in Eastern Region and seven (7) in the Central Region.
She added that the aim for the sensitization programme was to educate the youth about the dangers on the internet and its associated crimes.

Mrs. Avotri further explained that it is under the crime prevention mandate of the Office that such programme was undertaken. She was optimistic that the students would desist from overindulging themselves on cyberspace.

She added that the Public Affairs Unit of EOCO would not relent in its crime prevention public education and that the year 2020 more programmes targeting especially the youth would be undertaken by the Office.

Some of the schools that have benefitted from this programme are Wesley Grammer Senior High School, Our Lady of Mercy, Tema Senior High School, Ashiaman Senior High School, Ada Senior High School, Amasaman Senior Technical School, Ngleshie Amanfrom Senior High School, Achimota Senior High School, Presbyterian Boys Senior High School and St. Mary’s Senior High School.
Others are Koforidua Secondary Technical School, Pope Johns SHS, Universal SHS, Liberty Vocational SHS, Nkwakwa Senior High School and Oda SHS.
Also, Mfanstipim SHS, University Practices, St Augustine’s College, Ghana National College, Oguaa Technical Senior High School, Adisadel College and Cape Coast Technical Senior High School have benefitted from the programme.
