Some Forty (40) Ph.D Students from the Nasarawa State University, Nigeria paid a learning visit to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on 23rd June 2022 under the auspices of the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Ghana.
The Ph.D candidates drawn from various disciplines relating to Governance and Development Studies with focus on Security and Strategic Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies are on a study tour of Ghana to familiarize themselves with issues of Governance and National Development within the ECOWAS Sub-region.
The delegation was led by the Director of the Institute of Governance and Development Studies, Nasarawa State University, Professor Andrew Zamani. He was accompanied by his Deputy, Dr. Usman Amadi and Prof Eugene Aniagba, a Professor of International Relations and Directoring Staff.
The Executive Director of EOCO, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah welcomed the Team, most of whom were in Ghana for the first time, thanking them for choosing EOCO for their academic exercise.
She assured them of her support, adding that her team will do well to address all their questions and concerns regarding the Mission, Objects and Functions of EOCO and help them conceptualize and better appreciate the investigative regime in Ghana.
Professor Andrew Zamani expressed appreciation to COP Addo-Danquah for the warm welcome and added that the visit to EOCO was strategic in light of issues of Terrorism and Violent Extremism which threaten to sweep over our sub-region.
The Students were also grateful for the wealth of information that was delivered during the presentation on the mandate of EOCO, stating that it had enriched their scope of the regime in Ghana.
The Director-Administration Mr. Edward Cudjoe encouraged the delegation to keep relations open with the institution and assured them of EOCO’s support for any subsequent assistance they may require in the future.
Also in attendance were Ms Aba J. Opoku, the Deputy Executive Director – Intelligence and Monitoring, , the Head of the Legal and Prosecutions Unit, Head of the Organised Crime Unit, Head of Internal Audit and the Public Affairs Unit.
