The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo on Wednesday, 18th October, 2017, launched the National Digital Property Addressing System describing it as the dawn of a new era at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The President remarked, “today marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new one, we have moved closer to realising our vision of formalising the Ghanaian economy”.
The President again noted that the informal nature of Ghana’s economy has been a major constraint to her development.
The system was designed by Vokacom a Ghanaian information technology firm. The National Digital property addressing system will provide an effective means of addressing every location and place in the country, using an information technology application.
The system is expected to among others aid government policies, planning and offer accurate data for service delivery.
He again said that the project is born from a partnership between the Ministry of Communications and Ghana Post, would give the country a trustworthy database of addresses.
The informal nature of the economy, he explained, has affected the nation’s ability to broaden the tax base, deepen and widen financial inclusion, and deliver services to those most in need.
Additionally, through this system, Government can now move to strengthen the health and safety of citizens. Law enforcement agencies can also easily access addresses more effectively in order to deal with crime. Health, fire and ambulance services can effectively identify property locations in order to save lives at a faster rate. He again said that citizens will soon enjoy the advantages of having all security and emergency services responding to situations in efficient and timely manner, to provide critical security and first aid.
Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communication, also indicated that information collected for the National Digital Property Addressing System would be kept under lock and key.
Again the system would also make it difficult for criminals to hide in the country as well as prevent them from accessing or hacking any data.
