INTRODUCTION OF THE NEW NATIONAL CRIME AGENCY (NCA), UK INTERNATIONAL LIAISON OFFICER (ILO) TO THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ECONOMIC AND ORGANISED CRIME OFFICE (EOCO)
On Friday, 27th October, 2023, the Regional Manager of the National Crime Agency (NCA), UK, together with the new NCA, UK Liaison Officer paid an official visit to EOCO. The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce the new Liaison Officer to the Management team of EOCO and to discuss operational matters with Management.
The National Crime Agency is a national law enforcement agency in the United Kingdom. It is the UK’s lead agency against organised crime; human, weapon and drug trafficking; cybercrime; and economic crime that goes across regional and international borders. In the past years the NCA has collaborated with EOCO in operational areas and also facilitated training programmes for officers of EOCO.
As part of the Agency’s operations in sub-Saharan Africa, the NCA collaborates and cooperates with African law enforcement agencies such as EOCO in Ghana. It is in this light that the liaison officer was introduced to Management of EOCO to discuss issues of increased collaboration on matters of mutual interest, and enhance the operational capacities of the Economic and Organised Crime Office in the area of joint investigations.
At the meeting, the Executive Director of EOCO welcomed the new ILO to Ghana and also briefed him on the just ended training programme on Fraud Investigations Management facilitated by the NCA in London, Uk.
In addition, the Director of Administration of EOCO, Mr. Edward Cudjoe gave an overview of the Office regarding its operations and establishment.
The Regional Manager of NCA further explained his outfit’s technical support to the Technical Unit of EOCO and other collaborative areas for future cooperation and partnership.
In her closing remarks, COP MYT Addo-Danquah (Mrs) requested the support of NCA, UK in assisting EOCO to upgrade its digital tools to enhance the extraction, analysis and imaging of digital devices.
