EOCO GETS A NEW OFFICE FOR ITS OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN TECHIMAN (BONO EAST REGION)

On 27th April 2023, the Economic and Organised Crime Office inaugurated its new Bono East Office at Twimia Nkwanta, Techiman. The EOCO Techiman Office was made operational in 2020 with one desk officer and support from the Sunyani Office. The chairperson of the occasion, Twimiahene & Sannahene of Techiman Nana Ankomah Frimpong, in his acceptance speech, mentioned that the presence of the Office is very important to curbing economic and financial crimes in Techiman.

The Regional Director of the Bono East Region, noted that from being a lone ranger in 2020, it is a delight to be opening this new edifice that befits the Economic and Organised Crime Office and having eight additional officers to work with. He added that the office needs full collaboration from all partner agencies in the region in order to fulfill its mandate.

COP Alex Mensah a member of EOCO board who represented the Board Chairman noted that he is very delighted to be representing the board chairman for the inauguration of the Techiman Office, he task the Executive Director of EOCO to ensure that all resources needed for the smooth running of the office are catered for.

Taking her turn at the inauguration, the Executive Director COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo- Danquah expressed excitement and spoke about how the new office will enhance security and fight against economic, financial and other serious offences in Bono East Region which, is a busy commercial area.

Further, she said when “most of the time the Auditor General comes out with a report indicating that millions of Ghana cedis has been lost to the state, EOCO, backed by its mandate takes the report of every region and investigate them”. She emphasized that, in 2022, the Bono East Office was able to make some recoveries from the proceeds of crimes.

Twafohene of Techiman traditional council Nana Afena Nketia II charged all officers of the region to work diligently without fear or favour.

Also present at the inauguration were Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko, MCE, Techiman Municipal Assembly, Charles Boasiako Antwi, Techiman Office Manager of GRA, Peter Owusu Regional Budget Analyst, who sat in for the Regional Minister, the Municipal Police Commander DSP Emmanuel Ofori, Regional Commander of NIB Augustine Ofori and some selected Techiman based businessmen. Also present were correspondent media houses such as GTV, Joy News, Adom News/TV and Peace News.
