The Office of Special Prosecutor, led by Mr. Kissi Agyabeng, has paid a courtesy call on the new management of the Economic And Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Mr. Kissi Agyebeng took the opportunity to congratulate Mr. Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, Ag. Executive Director and Raymond Archer, Ag. Deputy Executive Director(Operations)
During the brief meeting, Mr. Dapilah noted that he was happy about the OSP’s visit and emphasized the need for the two institutions to deepen cooperation and collaboration.
Mr Dapilah was of the view that the trends of crime, be it financial or organised crime is becoming more and more sophisticated and required the close collaboration between the two institutions.
“It is not for nothing that EOCO is represented on the OSP board. The framers of the law envisaged the two institutions to work together” He noted.
Mr. Dapilah added that the two institutions play a critical role in enforcing laws on corruption and organised crime and welcome the need for collaboration.
On his part, Ag. Deputy Executive Director of EOCO, Mr. Raymond Archer noted that as a first step, it was important for the two institutions to repair what in the minds of most Ghanaians appears to be a frosty or strained relationship because of recent events. He added that the collaboration between the OSP and EOCO must be anchored on transparency, truth and integrity.
Mr Archer was of the opinion that the public perception of a strained relationship between the OSP and EOCO does not engender public confidence in both institutions and was happy that the new leadership of the two institutions were focused on deepening relationships.
On his part, the Special Prosecutor cautioned that it was important to avoid inter-agency competition that creates the atmosphere where agencies that are meant to work together rather try to “upstage each other”.
He therefore hoped that through this renewed effort of cooperation the two institutions can achieve a realistic and professional equilibrium.
Mr Dapilah also took the opportunity to officially introduce Mr. Ben Ndego, as Technical Advisor to EOCO. Mr. Ndego is an experienced financial and organised crime specialist with both local and international practice experience.
